Eating is the first step to pull one out of the depths that he imagines Xichen is in. It's a depth that Wanyin is familiar with himself. There is no speaking during eating and Wanyin honors that, quietly sipping at his own tea until Xichen finishes his meal.

He knows that Xichen's blindness caused his pain. But it was Jin Guanyao that had caused that blindness in the first place. They were all fooled and played by such a mastermind.

When he finally puts his bowl and chopsticks down, Wanyin places his cup down.

"Don't you think, because of the cost I paid, I would be able to understand what you have gone through? Partially if not completely?" he asks. "It's not the same betrayal and pain. But they are both recognizable beyond what those out there can recognize."
